Frontline Digital Nation

A documentary everyone should watch.

sunny 69 °F

Hey everyone-

We were required to watch this documentary for class. I think it's a really insightful look at what's happening to our world right now with technology surrounding us all of the time. We tend to think new ways of being connected are great, but new science suggests that the multi-tasking habits created by such technologies might have detrimental effects on a person's brain.

The blurb from the Frontline website reads: "Within a single generation, digital media and the World Wide Web have transformed virtually every aspect of modern culture, from the way we learn and work to the ways in which we socialize and even conduct war. But is the technology moving faster than we can adapt to it? And is our 24/7 wired world causing us to lose as much as we've gained? In Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier, FRONTLINE presents an in-depth exploration of what it means to be human in a 21st-century digital world. "

It's about 90 minutes long, but worth your while. Check it out by clicking on this link.

Hello again!

sunny 88 °F

Welcome to everyone interested in reading my new blog!

After the repeated suggestions of many, I've decided to return to the 'blog-o-sphere' and regale you all with tales of my new adventures in Boston. A lot of people gave positive feedback for my Rome blog, which you can check out by clicking here.

Technology classes are one of the great aspects of library school, and in these classes I am required to learn how to write my own html/xml code. As I learn, I hope to transition to a new website that I will build myself! This way I can keep everyone updated while also practicing for class. I think it's a win-win situation!

So, if you're interested in learning tidbits about technology, libraries, and Boston, you've come to the right place. One of the disadvantages about living in Boston is that I learn all this great information that I want to share, but everyone I want to share it with is back home in the Midwest. Using a blog I can keep everyone up to date and enhance the conversation with pictures and videos!

So for today we'll start with an interesting video I recently watched in my "Technology for Information Professionals" course about the evolution of the web. It may seem a little technical at first, but it's less than five minutes long, so give it a try! Check it out by clicking on the orange hyperlink.

Bye friends!
